Children’s Dental Health Care

The early bird catches the worm and we believe the same applies to your dental health. We recommend that children start having regular dental checks from the age of three to allow us to evaluate their oral health and development. Early detection also enables us to eliminate or reduce any potential problems that may appear in later childhood. Visiting the dentist can be a scary experience for a young child, however, our qualified children’s therapist aims to make it an experience that is fun and easy. Our family friendly practice also includes a children’s play area with playstation games and DVD in-chair entertainment.

Crowns

If you’ve lost, cracked or broken a tooth or just want to restore your smile, then crowns and bridges can help bring your smile back to its former glory. Porcelain crowns are made from ceramic materials and are used to repair the structure and function of your tooth, while perfecting your smile. How they work is by cementing to the existing surface of your affected tooth. Crowns are matched to the exact colour and texture of your existing teeth. Crowns are used when there is no longer sufficient tooth structure to support a filling.

Bridges

A bridge is essentially a false tooth, which is utilised in the place of missing teeth. Two crowns are used on either side of the bridge (or fake tooth) to increase stability and provide extra support. Bridges have a number of applications including improving speech and enhancing chewing, correcting a poor bite and preventing existing teeth shifting after nearby tooth loss.

Custom Fitted Mouthguards

Indental provides a custom fitting dental mouthguard service made just for you and your individual needs to protect your smile on the field. Most standard mouthguards don’t fit as accurately as custom-made mouthguards, leading to broken teeth and other potential injuries to the lips, tongue, face or jaw. A poorly fitted mouthguard can also cause breathing and speaking difficulties. To find out more talk to our friendly dental team who can provide more details on this service.

Snoring Treatments

If you have problems with snoring, then we can help you. Snoring is caused by the relaxation of the soft tissues at the back of your throat during sleep. This can partially block the airway causing the tissues to vibrate or ‘snore’ when breathing. There are a number of anti-snore appliances such as Snore Guards, which may be able to assist with reducing the incidence and impact of snoring without the need for surgery. The custom fitted devices work by preventing the collapse of the throat tissues that cause the snoring, providing you with a much more peaceful sleep. Speak to our dentist about whether this treatment option may be suitable for you.

Emergency Care

Unexpected dental emergencies such as broken teeth or fillings, infected teeth or gums or injuries to the jaw, lips and mouth require immediate and specialised dental care. Immediate action is necessary to ensure minimal pain and disruption to the mouth and in some cases, tooth survival. If you are in pain, we will aim to see you as soon as possible – please contact our practice for assistance. Accidents do happen, and knowing what to do when one occurs can mean the difference between saving and losing a tooth. See our preventative care page for some handy tips about how to protect your teeth in an emergency.

Fillings

From time to time, you may require a filling to replace missing tooth structure caused by damage or decay. Today, most fillings are prepared using composite resin or ceramic, which are tooth coloured and bond into place to help strengthen the tooth without being noticeable. Historically, Amalgam, which contained mercury, was used for tooth fillings. Due to the health risks posed by mercury, this practice is no longer used in most modern dental surgeries and restoration procedures can be undertaken to replace Amalgam fillings in a safe and controlled environment. The use of resin can also be beneficial in improving the look and feel of your smile, making it whiter, brighter and tidier – speak to our dental team about your cosmetic dental surgery options.

Neuromuscular Dentistry

Neuromuscular dentistry uses the relationship between the jaw muscles, jaw bones, nerves and teeth to correct jaw positioning and recreate a natural bite. To determine the most favourable position for your jaw, your head and neck muscles are measured in a relaxed position. Your jaw is then repositioned to meet these measurements. Treatment options using neuromuscular dentistry practices include adjusting your bite, orthodontics or restoring your teeth to their correct positions.

Preventative Care to Protect Your Smile

Preventive care is the foundation for good dental health and as we all know, prevention is always better than cure. Our dental hygienists Angela and Melissa are tertiary trained health professionals, and will work hand in hand with you to evaluate your overall oral health status and provide education and advice about the prevention of dental disease through instruction and specialised treatments. If you have any dental health questions that may need answers, ask to speak to Angela or Melissa for assistance or visit our q and a page for more details.

Root Canal and Teeth Extraction

A root canal treatment is a dental procedure that involves replacing a tooth’s damaged or infected pulp core (inside the central part of the tooth) with a filling. This central area consists of dental cells, blood vessels, tissue and nerve fibres. An untreated and diseased tooth pulp can cause severe inflammation and infection if left untreated. Depending on the level of infection, a tooth extraction may be chosen as the preferred form of treatment for this condition.
